The following describes the required and
optional uniforms and equipment for the 29th Division WWII
reenactor. As a general policy and in order to maintain our
reputation as a top-notch reenacting company, all members’
uniforms, equipment, and weapons will be appropriate to the 29th
Division during its service in World War II. Any modifications of
the standard uniform and equipment will be made accordingly for
each specific event and time frame being portrayed. The
impression we are trying to put forward is that of the line
grunt, we are not an elite specialty unit. However, we are
rigorous in ensuring that no ‘farby’ (re:
inappropriate) items will be carried by our unit
membership. If the 29th didn’t have it or use it, we
don’t either.
The listed uniforms and equipment are the
essentials required for the basic impression. This may seem
like a lot of equipment and uniforms, and it is. But it is
the basic kit of what the soldier would have had issued to
him. If you are new to this hobby, do you need to go out
and buy everything for your first event? No, however, you need to
have the basic field items, which would be the OD wool uniform,
boots, leggings, jacket, web gear, rifle, and helmet.
(Items marked with an *.) You can acquire the other things
as you find them. When buying WWII items, it is best to buy items
dated towards the early part of the war. By doing this, you
don’t need to do double buying. That is, you
don’t need to buy early war items and late war items.
You can use early war items no matter which war-year you are
depicting. However, you can not use late war (e.g., M-1945
pattern gear and/or color) for an early war impression. In
addition, guidelines on what and what not to wear follow.
We are still working on this page, which will soon include
pictures of most items, and detailed discussions of some items,
as interesting to our membership. For now, however, we have the
basic list:
